Newberg’s only full-service, low-barrier substance use clinic celebrates one year in Yamhill County — and over 450 community members helped so far

Tuesday’s celebration and resource fair seeks to educate community members about services now available to help those struggling with addiction.

NEWBERG, OR - On Tuesday, February 13th, 2024 from 11am-2pm, Recovery Works NW will celebrate one year of providing integrated medical and behavioral health addictions treatment to residents in Yamhill County. Recovery Works NW opened its Newberg location in January of 2023, thanks to funding from Measure 110. The anniversary celebration and community resource fair will take place at Recovery Works NW’s Newberg campus at 308 N Villa Rd, Ste 114, in Newberg, OR 97132. Social service and healthcare provider organizations will be tabling on-site to connect with community members. Lunch will be provided to attendees at no cost. The public and press are invited to attend.

In its first year serving Yamhill County, Recovery Works NW’s Newberg clinic has provided vital addiction recovery services to more than 450 local individuals, giving people the tools they need to recover from addiction and reclaim their lives. Recovery Works NW provides a broad spectrum of evidence-based treatment services, from Medication Assisted Treatment (MSR/MAT), to outpatient substance use disorder treatment, state approved DUII program, case management, recovery coaching, and peer support services. Recovery Works NW offers tools and support for all substance addictions including opioids (including fentanyl), alcohol, stimulants, and polydrug use.

This expanded access to care has been made available to Yamhill County residents — free of cost to them — thanks to funding from Measure 110. Recovery Works NW’s Newberg clinic is the only low-barrier, full-service provider of its kind in Yamhill County.

“Medications to treat substance use disorders are a critical, life-saving, component of modern addictions treatment. These medications control cravings, reduce overdose deaths, and help our clients stay on track with their recovery.” - Bryan Schwartz, MD, Addiction Medicine physician and Recovery Works NW Co-Founder

Recovery Works NW is also at the forefront of helping Oregon tackle one of its most urgent issues: the fentanyl crisis. Recovery Works NW medical provider, Katie Nicosia, NP is a leading provider of Sublocade injectable buprenorphine, a proven medication intervention that reduces the risk of fatal overdose and helps individuals recovering from fentanyl addiction to maintain their recovery and rebuild their lives. Across the country, Sublocade injectable buprenorphine is notoriously difficult for patients to access and typically not covered by health insurance, despite being considered a leading treatment foropioid use disorder by addiction medicine experts. Sublocade injectable buprenorphine is the onlymedication of its kind that provides a full month of addiction treatment, unlike the medication’s pillcounterpart, which must be taken daily.

“When we prescribe buprenorphine in oral form, the patient must commit to taking the medication at least once a day. This daily requirement leads many patients — particularly those experiencing houselessness— to fall out of treatment, relapse, and overdose,” said Katie Nicosia, NP and Co-Owner at RecoveryWorks NW. “That’s why we’ve been fierce advocates of increasing access to Sublocade…because it’s most effective in managing cravings associated with fentanyl cessation and reducing overdose in the case of return to use. In the age of fentanyl, these cravings are so severe that most cannot recover without medication assisted treatment.”
